July 1, 2008

At 1:00 pm yesterday the buses rolled into Sabine Creek Ranch, kids hanging out the windows, ready for the blob, the horses, rec games, and everything else they've been hearing about for weeks. Our band, speaker and camp staff were ready for all the campers.

After the welcoming ceremony and introduction of the Spirit Stick, the campers poured out of the worship center for an afternoon full of activities. At Rec Roundup campers played flickerball, ultimate frisbee, and something called ultimate football that only our head rec guy, Matt, could come up with or explain. Campers also got the chance to shoot BB guns (at targets, not each other) and make leather bracelets under the Crafts tent with a few of our awesome staff members. And of course, campers visited the pond and played on one of Sabine Creek's most popular attractions - the blob. (One camper tentatively jumps onto one end of this over-sized bag of air while his or her friend simultaneously flies off the other end.) Pond-goers were also able to slide down our brand new inflatable slide, generously donated by many of the churches that attend and host camps here at the ranch.

After the day's activities were over and campers had filled their stomachs with yummy lasagna, worship began. Seth Slay and his talented band led the camp in an incredible time of worship, followed by Seth's father, Wayne Slay, who brought us the message.

The Journey has begun, and God is at work here at Sabine Creek Ranch this week. Quiet time today focuses on asking God to teach us and the campers His way. We are challenging them to make the choice to listen to Him, and follow in His truth. Please pray for your camper today that God will open up his or her heart and mind to His Word and His way, and that they may be obedient.

Stay tuned for more updates as The Journey continues!
